Police turn to public for help with alleged abduction attempt in Duncan

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP received a report of a possible attempted abduction near the intersection of Trunk and Marchmont roads that occurred on September 12, 2015 between the hours of 7 and 9pm. Police have little to go on after receiving a phone call from a local woman stating a man tried to pull her into a van. The woman was riding her bike along the road side when a dark coloured van pulled up alongside her. She stated the door opened and a Caucasian man tried to pull her into the van. When he wasn’t able to, the van drove away.

The woman left the area and went home. She did not report the incident to police for some time. Once she felt that she could talk to police, she did report that the van was being driven by a Caucasian man. The passenger that tried to drag her into the van was also Caucasian. She stated that neither the driver nor the passenger spoke to her. The woman has engaged the Cowichan Valley Victim Services Unit to assist her through this ordeal.

“It is always advisable to report incidents like this one to police as soon as possible, to assist in the identification and location of possible suspects and evidence,” added Cpl. Krista Hobday.

Police are asking if anyone thinks this vehicle and occupants sound familiar, to call North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP at 250-748-5522 or alternately you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). You do not have to reveal your identity to Crime Stoppers. If you provide information to Crime Stoppers that leads to an arrest you could be eligible for a cash award.
