Boats destroyed in Hallowe’en night fire in Cowichan Bay

RCMP are investigating after fire destroyed three boats in Cowichan Bay Hallowe’en night.

People at a nearby hotel spotted the flames and alerted emergency crews.

There are no reports of injuries.  It’s believed the boats may have been abandoned.

According to Sgt. Chris Swain of Duncan/North Cowichan RCMP, “Witnesses on scene advised these boats had been moored in the area for a lengthy period of time.  This fire is being treated as suspicious… The owner, who owns all three vessels, was spoken to by police at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
At this time it is not known what efforts may be made to recovered the submerged boats.”
