Charges laid following unsuccessful attempt to rob an elderly woman in Duncan

The North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP have laid charges against a 47-year old man following an unsuccessful attempt to rob an elderly woman last Friday afternoon in Duncan.

The RCMP says the incident happened around 5 pm on March 14th when a man grapped a purse from a woman at Canada Avenue and Station Street.

When officers arrived the suspect was being held by bystanders who had intervened to prevent him from getting away.

The victim was assisted by people at the scene and treated by ambulance paramedics for serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The RCMP detachment commander, Staff Sergeant Ken Beard, says its important to note the bravery of community members who came together to ensure the safety of a senior citizen.
