A snowboarder from Alert Bay took home the women’s championship from a competition in Revelstoke this past weekend.
The Yeti Natural Selection event brought competitors from Europe, Japan, the USA and Canada to hit the slopes in the Montana Bowl. Spencer O’Brien, the only competitor from BC, defeated Lake Tahoe’s Elena Hight to win the women’s championship title.
On social media, O’Brien says it was special to be able to ride with Hight, calling her one of her oldest friends and heroes.
O’Brien is 37 and has been skiing and snowboarding since she was two years old. She competed in the 2014 Olympics in Sochi and the 2018 Olympics in PyeongChang. She is considered one of Canada’s top female snowboarders.
