A 42 year old man from Sooke is in custody after the Shawnigan Lake RCMP seized an improvised explosive device from a vehicle.
On January 17, police received a report of a suspicious vehicle, but before it could be stopped the driver fled from police and with assistance from the North Cowichan-Duncan and Westshore RCMP, officers located it at the Mill Bay Marina.
The suspected driver left in another vehicle, which was stopped by police and three occupants were taken into custody.
While searching the first vehicle, a stolen blue Ford truck, an improvised explosive device was found and the RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit was flown in by helicopter to dispose of it.
One man remains in custody and two other individuals were released without charge as the investigation continues.
