More substance use treatment beds are coming to those in need in BC.
On Monday afternoon, the BC Government announced 26 new treatment and recovery beds to support those struggling with addiction, with the goal of making access to treatment easier.
Of these beds, six of them will be given to Island Crisis Care in Nanaimo. The beds will be for women to get long-term care support for recovery after finishing treatment.
Minister of Health Josie Osborne says when someone reaches out for help with substance use, they should get compassionate and effective care.
“We are expanding services across B.C. so more people have the supports they need to stabilize their lives and begin their healing journey,” said Osborne.
The province says this comes as part of their ongoing plan to expand treatment and recovery services through partnering with the Canadian Mental Health Association’s BC division.
248 treatment beds are currently funded, with plans of opening more by this spring.
