Cowichan Tribes purchases former RCMP detachment

The land on which the former North Cowichan-Duncan RCMP detachment was located has been sold.

The 1.7 hectare property at 6060 Canada Avenue was purchased from North Cowichan by Cowichan Tribes for 1.2 Million dollars.

Cowichan Tribes will take ownership on January 15th, and will move its Emergency Services and Public Works teams to the building.

The transfer includes a covenant to protect Bings Creek from future development while permitting North Cowichan to conduct restoration and maintenance work.

Restoration of a portion of the north channel of Bings Creek will be done in 2025.

A 2.6 metre section of the property along Canada Avenue was not part of the sale and will be used for an active transportation corridor.

A formal handover ceremony will take place in the new year.
