RCMP investigate fatal weekend collision near Duncan

An investigation into a fatal head-on collision this weekend is in the early stages according to the North Cowichan Duncan RCMP.

On Sunday police responded to a collision in the eastbound land of Highway 18 where witnesses said a small pickup truck drifted into oncoming traffic and hit a one-tonne truck.

The driver of the small truck was pronounced dead despite lifesaving efforts of first responders, police say.

They add that all highway traffic was shut down briefly while emergency crews worked to pull the driver out of the smaller pickup truck.

The other driver was taken to the hospital with “minor injuries”.

RCMP are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact investigators, specifically the driver of a white truck that swerved into the ditch to avoid the collision.

If you have any information contact the North Cowichan RCMP at 250-748-5522.
