Nourish Cowichan is partnering with another Vancouver Island school food program to bring more healthy meals to kids.
Nourish announced that it would partner with the Pacific Rim School District to deliver a new school meal program in Port Alberni and Ucluelet.
Executive Director of Nourish Fatima Da Silva says they are helping to rebuild SD 70’s program.
“We’re sharing knowledge with them and trying to support what they’re doing right now,” said Da Silva.
The partnership came about organically while SD 70 was researching existing examples of school food programs, adds Da Silva
“We are thrilled to announce this partnership, which marks a significant step in our commitment to address food insecurity and ensure that every student has access to nutritious meals,” said Pam Craig, Chair of Pacific Rim School District’s Board of Education.
The Pacific Rim School District says they have seen a 30% increase in the number of students accessing food programs in Ucluelet and Port Alberni.
Da Silva adds that Nourish Cowichan is proud to leverage its years of experience to support students and families in School District 70.
