Missing man confirmed dead off Cowichan Bay, RCMP

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP say they’ve located the body of a missing person on the shores of Cowichan Bay.

The 26-year-old man went missing on Oct. 21 and the RCMP followed up several leads and took on numerous tasks to locate the missing person.

Officers, along with police dog services, were deployed to search several areas including shorelines of Cowichan Bay with the RCMP West Coast Marine Unit, and according to police they were able to locate the body yesterday around 12:30 p.m.

Corporal Alex Berube says at this time they have ruled out foul play, but the investigation will continue.

“While the investigation thus far hasn’t raised suspicions of criminality, the circumstances surrounding this person’s death are being thoroughly investigated, including his actions on the days prior to his death,” he says.

Police say the deceased man’s name won’t be released to respect the family’s privacy.
