A local business will get a showcase at a Vancouver Island-wide summit.
Leverton & Associates Ltd., a company focused on giving consulting services to private business, government, and non-profits, will be part of the Vancouver Island Economic Alliance Summit this year.
They’ll be showcased under Rising Stars: Businesses to Watch, with the summit’s goal being to get business leaders, stakeholders, and decision makers across the Island to connect.
President of Leverton & Associates David Leverton says being included in this event is very special.
“It’s a special opportunity because we have a company that is new in respect to ADDL Games, and we have just produced our very first board game,” said Leverton.
“We’re trying to build this into its own industry, and so being recognized through this event and having an opportunity to actually meet our colleagues, to be able to share ideas, learn from them is very special.”
Leverton says his career includes working 30-plus years in the Science Centre Museum and Cultural First Nations Museum community, where he got to help develop and design different exhibits for these different facilities.
This experience led to the creation of a new initiative, the Dice Hockey Board Game.
Leverton says they have gotten positive feedback on the game.
“We have made best efforts to get out to several different markets, and this has been a way to more or less showcase to people that we’re out and about making a new environment for making games in the Mid-Island Region,” said Leverton.
He hopes through this showcase, they can spread the word on an 18-week micro-credential program they’re developing with North Island College.
The goal of the program is to help people learn how to make board games, with hopes of launching it in early 2025.
You can catch the summit at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre in Nanaimo, running on October 23 and the 24. The Rising Stars segment will run from 9 to 11 in the morning on the 24.
