North Cowichan adds 92 affordable units to housing supply

More affordable housing is on the way for North Cowichan as the province announced its first co-op housing project on the central island last week.

Minister of Housing Ravi Kahlon thanked their local partners and said they are “excited to be moving forward with 92 affordable housing units in North Cowichan.”

The development is led by TL Housing Solutions, and will feature a mix of town homes and apartments rented below-market rates.

North Cowichan owns the land and will lease it to the Community Land Trust of BC.

“We’re looking forward to breaking ground on this project and will benefit many local individuals and families struggling in the current housing market,” said Mayor Rob Douglas.

An entire floor will also be dedicated to second-stage housing for women fleeing domestic violence.
