Mill Bay Fire rescue thanks employees for efforts to put out blaze

Last night (Wed) Mill Bay Fire Rescue was on scene responding to a fire at the Mill Bay A&W just off the highway.

MBFR says 20 volunteer firefighters and three engines took part in the response and arrived to find a fire burning in the back right corner of the building.

“When the first trucks arrived on scene there was heavy smoke showing from the whole building. An interior attack team made quick entry for an initial knockdown,” MBFR said in a Facebook post.

They added the damage was contained to the back right of the building near the customer washrooms.

“Kudos to the A&W employees who were working last night that attempted to extinguish the fire with and extinguisher and called 911. Without your early reporting the building likely would have been a full loss.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation but has not been deemed suspicious.
