Power Outages Affect Thousands Across the Cowichan Valley

A couple of different power outages are affecting thousands of BC Hydro customers across the Cowichan Valley.

A downed power wire is affecting the most customers, with 3,859 customers, while other outages are sprinkled across the Valley, with 130 affected by an outage in Cowichan Station.

The main outage occurred at 4:45 am, with crews on-site as of 8:10am. No estimated time of return.

“I don’t think there is one traffic light on in the whole downtown [Duncan] core,” one caller tells Vista Radio.

UPDATE 9:40am: Another outage has just hit the Somenos area, just North of Duncan. This one is affecting 1,747 customers, with no cause or time back on available. Crews have not yet been assigned.

Main Duncan outage estimated back on at noon.

UPDATE 11:00am: Somenos area has a crew on-site. Power expected back for 12:30pm.

UPDATE 12:02pm: Power back for main outage in Downtown and eastern side of town (Tzouhalem area). Somenos area outage still ongoing expected return time bumped back to 1:30pm.
