Island Health is switching to a new system of electronic medical records.
Nanaimo is the first to use I-Health, which will roll out across the rest of the Island over the next 10 years.
I-Health will be fully integrated at Nanaimo Regional General and Dufferin Place by June.
Suzanne Fox is the Executive Director of I-Health for Nanaimo and the surrounding area.

She says the system gives everyone involved a better understanding of a patient’s medical history.
Fox says one benefit they expect to see is a decrease in medication errors. The I-Health project is costing 175 million dollars.
