The Nanaimo Ladysmith School Board got a look at this year’s amended budget this week.
Now that enrollment numbers are final SD 68, like its counterparts across the province, will have to adjust the spending plan because enrollment determines how much money they get from the province.
Acting Secretary Treasurer Graham Roberts says this year they also have another factor to adjust for.
Those strike savings amounted to just over 3.5 million.
As the budget work continues the board will also have to decide if it wants to use reserves to cover a potential shortfall of around 4 million.
The numbers also show international students continue to be a big contributor to Nanaimo Ladysmith’s bottom line, bringing in more than 3 million dollars in tuition fees for 2014-15. Attracting more international students, as well as charging for busing and parking are some ideas being suggested to boost revenue. The Board hasn’t offered any opinion on those ideas yet.
