The BC Centre for Disease Control says the flu season that hit the province a little earlier than usual, is picking up steam.
But Mid-Island Medical Health Officer Dr Paul Hasselback says it’s still too early to say if the season will be more severe.
The main flu strain circulating right now is known as H3N2, and the vaccine isn’t a perfect match for a mutated version that’s been showing up.
Starting today health care workers, and people visiting places like hospitals and long term care home have to be vaccinated or wear a mask. Hasselback says last year about 71 per cent of health care workers got flu shots.
