The snow started falling in the early afternoon in the Cowichan Valley yesterday (Sun) and a snowfall warning was issued by Environment Canada.
By 8 o’clock last night reports varied from 13 inches in Shawnigan, 11 inches in Cobble Hill and 15 in Ladysmith.
The TransCanada from the Westshore Parkway to the Shawnigan Mill Bay Road was closed for a couple of hours late yesterday afternoon as was the Pat Bay Highway.
School buses are not running and schools are closed today (Mon) in School District 68 and in 79 and schools are closed.
We’re All Sharing Together Daycare the Shawnigan Lake Community Centre Child Care and Preschool and the Arcadian Early Learning Duncan Day are closed today (Mon).
It’s probably a good idea, if you are flying off the Island today to check on to check the arrivals or departures before you make that trek to the airport.
This isn’t the last we will see of the snow either, there’s another system on the way today (Mon) and it’s calling for another 5 centimeters or so before it moves off.
The cold weather is here to stay for a while with some forecasters predicting the temperatures will remain below normal until the end of the month.
