BC’s new distracted driving penalties are now in effect.
As of Monday, anyone caught talking on a hand-held electronic device while driving will be facing three penalty points as well as a 167 dollar fine.
The new penalty includes talking on, holding or dialing a cell phone, using a hand-held audio player such as an iPod or mp3 player or programming a GPS.
The Province says it will continue to look at increased fines for distracted driving as part of an overall fine restructure review and work is underway to determine what that amount will be.
