NDP's Carole James puts blame for forest industry closures on log exports

NDP Finance Critic Carole James is joining her colleagues from Nanaimo North Cowichan and Cowichan Valley in blaming log exports for causing problems for the forest industry.

James went after the premier in Question Period, saying that a mill in Kitwanga, which Christy Clark visited in 2011, and WFP in Nanaimo are now closing because logs are going overseas.

James says the government is ignoring traditional resource industries in a rush to embrace LNG.

But Clark says forestry is thriving under the Liberals, thanks in large part to exports.

NDP MLAs Doug and Bill Routley, who are both deputy Forest Critics, have been saying this week that raw log exports is one of the biggest issues facing coastal forest companies.
