The search for a missing 79-year-old man in the Maple Mountain and Mount Richards areas near Crofton was called off yesterday.
North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP say there have been well over two thousand hours logged over a 23 square kilometre area in the search for Tony Morley by Cowichan Search and Rescue, local police as well as volunteers from all over the island and lower mainland.
Cpl. Krista Hobday says although SAR is no longer looking for Morley that doesn’t mean they won’t have him on their minds while training.
Hobday says all resources where exhausted in the search including a helicopter, SAR dogs, ATVs and kayaks.
About 15 people showed up to assist SAR on Sunday in their final search for Morley, who was last seen on September 21st, when his parked car was discovered at the base of Maple Mountain.
