The gravel pit development south of Duncan on the Balme Ayr farm must go through some regulatory procedures before any gravel can be extracted.
The CVRD’s development services division manager, Rob Conway, says the project has gotten the green light from the Agricultural Land Commission and now needs a mine permit.
Conway says the Ministry of Energy and Mines will be conducting a public meeting next month to address the farm owner’s application for a permit.
The CVRD has already rejected the gravel processing proposal after a legal opinion that basically told the Board it can’t issue temporary use permits on farmland.
That is according to the District’s own Official Community Plan.
As a result of the ruling the CVRD is looking at some past temporary use permits that were issued.
