The dangerously low water levels in the Cowichan River and the impact it has on the fish inhabiting the river was discussed by the Municipality of North Cowichan at Wednesday’s council meeting.
Mayor Jon Lefebure says council made a decision that it hopes will help relocate the fish at the appropriate time if significant rainfall doesn’t come soon.
He says the fish need to take refuge in areas of the river that are deeper and cooler.
Lefebure adds lower levels of water result in an increase in temperature which can have deadly implications on the aquatic life.
