If you see red-tidal algae in the water don’t swim in that area.
So says the director and the chair of the Cowichan Estuary Restoration and Conservation Association Dr. Goetz Schuerholz.
He adds red tide has been spotted in the Cowichan Bay and ocean waterways this year.
Schuerholz says it can be harmful to humans if they consume shellfish that have eaten the red-tidal algae because it can cause respiratory problems, eye irritation or effect the nervous system.
