There are lots of issues up for debate this week at the Assembly of First Nations Annual General Assembly in Halifax.
The NDP’s Aboriginal Affairs Critic Jean Crowder says one is the Conservative government’s bill to reform aboriginal education, which was rejected by the AFN.
The Nanaimo Cowichan MP says the government’s announcement of an extra 1.9 billion dollars for aboriginal education shows they’re aware of the funding gap.
Crowder says other important discussion happening during the general assembly are revolving around resource development and the future of the AFN itself.
A motion’s been passed to look at restructuring the organization, and it’s expected some recommendations will be revealed in December when national chiefs meet to elect a new chief.
