Speed cameras are being considered an option to help improve safety along the Malahat between Mill Bay and Langford.
The Capital Regional District’s Traffic Safety Commission is recommending the CRD approach the Cowichan Valley Regional District about sending a joint proposal to the province for speed cameras to be placed at the entrance and exits of the Malahat.
Chair of the Commission Colin Plant says the cameras would use interval based speed enforcement.
He says this proposal is still in it’s very early stages. The motion to send a letter asking the Cowichan Valley Regional District for support may only end up in front of the Capital Regional District’s board in July.
Plant is also a member of the CRD board, and a councillor with the District of Saanich.
