Decision time in Ladysmith

The residents of Ladysmith have spoken and now the issue of the town’s boundary expansion could go to a referendum.

More than the necessary 10% of the eligible electors in the area submitted forms against an Alternative Approval Process, meaning that in order for the town to move forward on expansion they would to have to receive the go ahead through a referendum.

However, Mayor Rob Hutchins says, before that happens they have first wait for council to complete a report on the matter, among other things…

The issue of boundary expansion has been ongoing for the better part of six years. Hutchins says over that time they’ve brought the issue to the public in a variety of ways including public meetings.

Hutchins says the expansion doesn’t trigger development. There is still many steps before they get to that point.
