Illegal elk harvesting in the Cowichan

Someone, or more likely several individuals have been illegally harvesting Roosevelt elk up off the North Shore Road in the Youbou – Lake Cowichan district.

Conservation officer Mark Kissinger says 7 Roosevelt elk were found shot dead on private land where hunting is not permitted due to public safety concerns, during the months of February and March…..

Kissinger says the animals were from different herds and given the time of year, were likely carrying calves.

He says the carcasses had most of the edible portions of meat removed.
