Director says, "Not so fast"

The Agriculture Land Commission has approved the gravel extraction and reclamation project proposed by the Balme Family of Cobble Hill.

The project would see roughly $4.2-mil-cubic-metres of aggregate removed over a 15-year period and replaced with more than 4.6-mil-cubic meters of clean soil.

The area around the farm is divided by the project, with many citing health concerns as the main reason.

But, area director for Cobble Hill Gerry Giles says this approval by the ALC is only the first step in what will be a long road.

After originally approving the proposal, the CVRD later sent the application to the ALC in June, with the recommendation to deny it.

Gilles says what’s important now is to not jump to any conclusions.
