A memorial for Brayden Gale at Chemainus Lake was vandalized less than two days after it was unveiled.
Family and friends gathered on Friday night to remember the 22 year old man who lost his life last winter in a tragic drowning. RCMP say the memorial was painted over with what appeared to be a permanent marker.
Gale’s mother Laura Robertson says the vandalism opens the wound again.
While devastated, Robertson is not discouraged and will continue her mission to install more life rings in small lakes across the Cowichan Valley.
The vandalism happened over the weekend of August 13th. North Cowichan staff were able to restore the memorial.
If anyone has information on who is responsible, contact the local RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
