The Cowichan Watershed Board is bringing Dr. Bethany Coulthard, researcher at the University of Arizona Tree-Ring Lab to discuss her findings from a recent study of drought on coastal BC.
According to Dr. Coulthard, there were at least 16 historical droughts worse than the benchmarks used today. She says water management strategies need to develop and become more conservative if we want our waterways to survive.
Coulthard says the Cowichan Valley has a relatively small watershed and a concerned community, so we are in a good position to make real change and protect our water.
You can learn more about the tree-ring study and hear from Dr.Bethany Coulthard at the lecture held at the VIUÂ Cowichan Campus, 7pm tonight (Monday).
