The Municipality of North Cowichan remains supportive of the Island Corridor Foundation and their plans to bring rail service to the Island.
The Foundation and Southern Rail presented at council yesterday to share an update on the project. Many of the Councillors shared concerns about the Regional District of Nanaimo pulling out of the project including Councillor Al Siebring says feedback from the public isn’t all positive.
Siebring says he is still supportive of the project, and appreciative of the foundation’s efforts.
Foundation CEO Graham Bruce responded to council saying maintenance and preventing deterioration is not as bad as you would think. Bruce says the loss of support is a concern, but not as an end to the project.
Bruce says the next piece to the puzzle is getting the federal funding signed off.
