Two people are facing charges after RCMP shut down a suspected “magic mushroom” grow-op.
North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP called in a special Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement and Response Team (CLEAR) from the Lower Mainland for a search at a home in North Cowichan, November 6th.
They found, “equipment, drug paraphernalia, and a number of containers used to cultivate what is suspected to be psilocybin mushrooms.”
RCMP say they don’t know how long the illegal lab had been running.
“Due to the mold and fungi generally associated to the growing mushrooms, this type of criminal behaviour posses a threat to the health and well-being of anyone entering the home as well as investigators,” says Corporal Krista Hobday. “All necessary precautions were taken to ensure public and Police safety as the lab was dismantled.”
The charges against the 32 year old man and a 34 year old woman arrested at the home include: Production of a Controlled Substance, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, and Possession of Stolen Property.
