All local governments in the Cowichan Valley will be going down to Stage 1 watering restrictions as of Friday.
Officials say the restrictions have been lowered because of more storage at Cowichan Lake, less demand from local water systems and lots of rain in the forecast.
They say Stage 1 will be in effect until the end of the month.
During Stage 1, the following restrictions apply:
• Owners or residents of even-numbered addresses are permitted to water on even-numbered days, between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. OR 8:00 p.m and 10:00 p.m. (2 hours maximum per scheduled day).
• Owners or residents of odd-numbered addresses are permitted to water on odd-numbered days, between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. OR 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. (2 hours maximum per scheduled day).
• Automatic sprinkling systems must be programmed to match Stage 1 permitted dates and times or be manually operated to comply with the bylaw.
• Commercial enterprises which require water to facilitate normal business activities, such as power washing companies or window washing companies, are permitted unless ordered otherwise by the Director of Public Works or Engineering.
• Washing of cars, boats, driveways and houses is permitted.
• Garden Irrigation Permits may be issued where new sod or seed has been planted (apply at your local government office).
• Hand watering of trees, shrubs, flowers, or vegetables is permitted on any day of the week between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. OR between 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. by use of a hose with a spring-loaded nozzle or by bucket (maximum 2 hours per day).
• Micro irrigation or drip irrigation systems may be utilized anytime to a maximum of 4 hours per day.
