Drivers heading through the Malahat starting on October 1st will have to follow BC’s winter tire rules.
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure’s Mike Lorimer says the province wants to make sure everyone is prepared for driving in the fall and winter.
And, he says that means tires have to have a Mountain Snowflake or Mud and Snow symbol as well as a minimum tread depth of 3.5 mm, while chains are needed for trucks.
Lorimer says fines can be as much as $121 for not following the rules. The same rules also apply to Highway 14, 4 and 28.
