Cowichan youth will get support through a new youth health Centre.
Called the Quw’utsun Youth Health Centre, it aims to give youth in the Cowichan Valley a space where they can ask questions about health and get support.
Minister of Health Josie Osborne says the new Centre will be a key support for the youth.
“It will offer nursing services that promote health, education and referrals to counseling and community services they may need,” said Osborne.
“This is another step in supporting health care when and where people need it.”
Island Health says the Centre is now located at Quw’utsun Secondary School, where it will provide nursing and other services such as general health and wellness support, STI testing, pregnancy testing, mental health support, sexual health and relationships information, immunizations, harm reduction and substance use.
It’ll be available to students at the school, those between the ages of 13 and 24, and students up to 24 years old attending the local Vancouver Island University.
The Centre officially opened on April 1.
