Innovative Island building projects nominated for awards

A host of innovative building projects and companies on Vancouver Island have been nominated for this year’s commercial building awards.

They include Campbell River’s Rail Yard Market, which took a problem downtown property and turned it into a place for micro-businesses to thrive. Courtenay’s Big Wheel Burger, Powell River’s new transfer station, Nanaimo’s redeveloped Sealand Market, and the new Quw’utsun Secondary School in Duncan are also on the list.

The awards event is produced by the Business Examiner, and recognize the best in commercial and industrial buildings completed between the Malahat and North Vancouver Island. Projects are judged based on a strict set of criteria including design, functionality, and community contribution.

There are also several company-based awards.
