BC carbon tax to be eliminated April 1

It’s now official; BC’s carbon tax will be eliminated come April 1.

The province announced their plan to remove the tax earlier this month, with Premier David Eby saying they made a commitment last year to end it if the federal government removes the national tax.

“With the federal government removing the federal carbon tax on consumers, the B.C. government is not only halting the scheduled tax increase, but also tabling legislation on March 31 to remove the tax,” said the BC Government.

The province says they’re notifying fuel sellers and natural gas retailers of the change, so they don’t collect the tax from customers.

With the tax to be eliminated, they add they’re committed to having industrial emitters pay their fair share.
