More childcare spaces are coming to McAdam Park in Duncan and Cowichan Valley MLA says more families are going to benefit as a result.
Thirty-six new spaces are expected to be opened, and will be operated by the City of Duncan, and according to a media release this builds on work currently underway across the region, including 158 spaces at Parkside Academy in the Municipality of North Cowichan.
Debra Toporowski says this means parents will have more flexibility in their lives as spaces open up.
“Increased access to child care spaces means more parents will have the flexibility they need to work or study,” she says. “This is great news for Duncan families and another example of how our government is working for families across BC.”
The investment is a combined total of over $62 million, and according to the province will help create more than 750 new licensed spaces across the province and will help aid in several ways for families.
“Once operational, these spaces will be eligible for governments fee reduction program, ensuring that these new spaces will be affordable for families,” the release says.
According to the province, since 2018 roughly $8 billion has been invested into ChildCare BC along with the Government of Canada to access affordable, inclusive, and quality child care.
