Travelers should be aware of planned extended closures on a segment of Canal Road on South Pender Island due to necessary repair work. Starting Monday, March 24, 2025, and continuing through the end of May 2025, the road will be closed daily between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. These closures, lasting up to four hours each day, are necessary to ensure the safety of drivers and construction crews while enabling efficient completion of road repairs.
Repair activities are scheduled seven days a week, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with efforts made to minimize traffic interruptions as much as possible. Emergency vehicles and essential deliveries will have passage through the closure area as needed.
Outside of the designated closure times, Canal Road will operate under a single-lane alternating traffic system, with traffic signals installed at each end of the affected section. Additionally, load restrictions may be implemented during periods of heavy rainfall.
Travelers should anticipate potential delays and plan to travel outside the extended closure times if feasible. Motorists are urged to drive according to road conditions, respect posted construction zone speed limits, and comply with traffic control signs and personnel instructions.
