Protect your home from wildfires this summer through an assessment and rebate program

A rebate is now available for homeowners in Ladysmith, Duncan, and the Cowichan Valley Regional District who want to better protect their properties from wildfires.

Emergency Management Cowichan says the Cowichan Regional FireSmart Resiliency Program is designed to help reduce the risk of wildfire damage.

A Wildfire Home Assessment will be available at no cost and the work undertaken to reduce the risks found could be eligible for refunds under the rebate program.

Ladysmith Fire Chief Chris Geiger says the frequency and intensity of wildfires is increasing, so it’s it more important than ever to
take steps to protect our community.

Geiger says the rebates will help people protect their homes during a wildfire, and make communities more resilient.

Applications for rebates of up to $4,000 are now available at a limited amount per community in Ladysmith, Duncan, and the Electoral Areas of the CVRD.

To be eligible, homeowners must get a free FireSmart Home Assessment and be willing to complete the approved work within 90 days of the
application approval.
