Advanced voting is scheduled for early next month as the municipality of North Cowichan gets ready to replace former councillor Debra Toporowski.
Toporowski stepped down from council on Oct. 31 after she won a provincial election and became the MLA for the Cowichan Valley.
According to the town, a by-election must be held when a vacancy occurs in an elected local government office, as according to section 54 of the Local Government Act.
Advanced polls are scheduled for Apr. 2 and 8 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the North Cowichan Municipal Hall, and the municipality says if voters can’t make the advanced polls, they can cast their ballots on election day, Apr. 12.
