Ladysmith residents hit the polls to elect new mayor on March 1

Ladysmith residents have already started casting their ballots, and the town says if you haven’t got to the advanced polls there will be time next month to vote.

A by-election to replace former mayor Aaron Stone was called after he stepped down on Sept. 30 after he accepted a role as Sipp’s new CEO leaving Councilor Tricia McKay as the acting mayor until after the election.

Residents will be able to cast their ballots in the advance polls on Feb. 26 for one of the six candidates who are running, and the town says if you miss that date the next voting day is on Mar. 1, which is general election day.

“General voting in the by-election will take place on Saturday Mar. 1 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the Frank Jameson Community Centre,” they say.

They say anyone voting in the election must be 18 years of age or older, a Canadian citizen and a resident of the Town of Ladysmith, or a registered property owner in the municipality and a resident of BC for at least six months before voting day.
