Chick-fil-A expanding to BC after Alberta success

One of America’s most popular fast-food chains, Chick-fil-A, is looking for local entrepreneurs to open up to seven restaurants in BC by 2030.

The company entered the Canadian market in Ontario in 2019. It opened three restaurants last year in Edmonton and Calgary, and after an overwhelmingly positive response, it’s looking to expand into BC.

Jessica Sisk Roehle, Chick-fil-A’s director of restaurant development in Canada, says the company is eying numerous communities around the province.

“The incredible reception Chick-fil-A received when we expanded into Alberta this past year really energized us as we planned our next steps in Canada. British Columbia has a number of vibrant, thriving communities across the province that makes it such a great place for us to grow,” she said in a news release.

As in Alberta and Ontario, restaurant operators will be local owners, and will be expected to hire approximately 80-120 employees at each new location.

Every time a Chick-fil-A restaurant opens, $25,000 (USD) is donated by the corporate head office to Second Harvest, one of Canada’s largest food rescue organizations, to support local non-profit organizations to help reduce hunger and food waste. So far, Chick-fil-A has donated over $500,000 (USD) to local Canadian organizations in celebration of restaurant openings.

That tradition will continue in British Columbia, the company says.

According to the company, its local ownership model requires a lower capital investment than many franchises, “making business ownership more attainable.”

The first BC location will be open in late 2027 or early 2028.
