UPDATED: Firearm report at Cowichan high school false, students admit fault

Update as of 12:21 Jan. 09, 2025: North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP say students have come forward admitting they were filming a school project while using a wooden stick designed to mimic the act of shooting.

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP say they’re looking at video footage to determine who may have pointed a firearm at a tree near Cowichan High School this morning.

The call came into the detachment today (Jan. 9) at around 9:30 a.m., but after a search of the area police say they were unable to locate an individual or a firearm in Kin Park.

The school was placed on hold and secure for the safety of students and staff while RCMP checked the grounds for evidence.
