One of the North Island’s most beloved tourist attractions is already rebuilding, after a devastating fire destroyed part of Telegraph Cove.
The Whale Interpretive Centre and its unique collection of whale and marine mammal skeletons were recently destroyed in a fire on the Telegraph Cove boardwalk on December 31.
However, the board of directors and surrounding communities have rallied back from the loss and have launched a fundraising campaign this year to rebuild the centre, with an even bigger collection, for people to enjoy long into the future.
So far it’s already raised nearly $30,000 after only a few days. It will be open all year, and they hope to raise a million dollars.
Visit the Centre’s website for the donation link, and for more information.
