Donations need to aid in education after Duncan school fire

Donations are being accepted in the wake of a fire that damaged four classrooms on New Year’s Eve.

The fire was reported after witnesses described an orange glow around Alexander School on the evening of Dec. 31.

According to a social media post, the rest of the school is intact, and Rachel Ridley says donations of any sort are welcome and appreciated.

“I’d be grateful for some art materials,” she says. “I’d be grateful to get my trolley loaded for Monday so I can stay focused on planning my lessons, and I’m happy to share the resources with my other colleagues who got hit harder than me.

“Main plot is sharing the wealth.”

Ridley says she will be at Alexander School on Friday, Jan. 3 at 2 p.m. to accept donations.

The fire is still under investigation by North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP, and other emergency officials.
