Thief targets downtown Duncan restaurant

A Duncan restaurant owner says a break-in that happened during their dinner rush was unfortunate and has now passed information on to RCMP to help find the culprit.

Liz Steward of the Craig Street Brew Pub says the incident happened around 6 p.m. yesterday (Dec. 29) after the man gained entrance through the back door.

She says he proceeded up an emergency stairwell where he made off with several staff items.

“The intruder came in through the door after discovering it was able to open,” she says. “Our staff have storage lockers, and the intruder decided to help himself to a few of the personal items of our staff.”

Some of the articles that were stolen include a brown leather jacket, dirt bike gloves, a black backpack, and a cow print lanyard as well as a set of keys.

Steward calls the situation scary, and although staff didn’t place a monetary value on the items taken, she says it’s sentimental value and the fact, and with a set of keys the culprit could continue his theft spree.

“It’s very unnerving because you don’t know if the person knows where those keys belong or if it’s going to hinder any safety in the future,” she says.

According to Steward, this is the second time in 18 years a theft has taken place.
