Oysters harvested earlier this month off the coast of Vancouver Island are being recalled in 15 US states after a possible norovirus contamination.
The US Food and Drug Administration says oysters sold as Fanny Bay, Buckley Bay and Royal Miyagi oysters harvested between December 1 and 9 are the target of the recall. San Francisco-based distributor S&M Shellfish issued the recall after a norovirus outbreak.
It says the oysters may have been sold in other states besides the ones named in the recall notice.
The FDA is advising food retailers and restaurants to dispose of the affected shellfish and to not serve or sell them.
The FDA says the affected oysters were originally harvested and produced by Pacific Northwest Shellfish and Union Bay Seafood.
Health Canada has not issued a recall for oysters sold in Canada.
