A downtown Duncan business owner says she is thankful her staff and customers are safe after a fire in the chimney forced her to quickly evacuate everyone this afternoon.
Craig Street Brew Pub owner Liz Steward says flames were pouring out of the chimney, and thanks to the quick actions of the fire department, and her staff, further incidents were avoided.
“People saw the flames coming out of the chimney above the fireplace,” she says. “I went up to check it out and sure enough there was a fire, so I called 911.”
Steward adds staff were able to extinguish the fire before the fire department showed up, but they still took steps to make sure everyone was safe.
“We put the fire out that was in the fireplace with just some water and turned off all the gas,” she says. “Then the fire department came and made sure everybody was out.”
The pub will be closed for the day, and Steward says she is unsure when it will open as it depends on what the fire department says.
